Charleston police were called to the Greyhound Bus Terminal after an informant noticed a extremely nervous person and speculated that he may somehow be involved in some sort of criminal activity.

Charleston Police located the individual in the bus terminal with luggage in hand. Police questioned the individual and asked him if he had anything illegal, and the suspect admitted to having a small amount of marijuana on his possession, and handed it over to police.

Police then asked the suspect to follow him to an office area for additional questioning and a search, and as they were walking the suspect dropped his luggage and ran out an adjacent door leading out to Washington St.

Charleston Police gave chase on foot, when they heard what is believed to have been a single gunshot, even though police did not see the suspect discharge the firearm, but police did say they witnessed the suspect stumble on the parking lot of the Arnett & Foster Financial Building.

Police later found the suspect laying face down along the 100 block of Washington St E and upon a further search police found a highpoint 9mm pistol and a magazine clip.

Police arrested and charged James Otis Herod, of Cleveland, Ohio, with wanton endangerment involving a firearm, and as a person prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Herod is currently lodged in the South Central Regional Jail.
