Man comes forward in connection with Kenova abduction

Posted: Updated:

A man has come forward in connection with a suspected abduction incident, according to Ray Mossman, with the Kenova Police Department.

A 17-year-old girl told her family that a man had tried to kidnap her Friday, according to police. She described the suspect as a Hispanic male driving a white SUV-type vehicle.

Mossman said that person of interest came forward Monday at noon. He told police that he was looking for an address and tried asking the teen for help. Mossman said the girl and the man's stories match.

"It was poor judgment on the individual's part to stop a child and ask for directions," Mossman said. "Adults should be advised that if they must stop and get directions they should only have contact with other adults or law enforcement."

When he saw the incident on the news, the man realized that he and his vehicle were the subject of interest, prompting him to contact the Kenova Police Dept.

A previous incident involving an older gray and black Ford panel van with a loud exhaust is still under investigation. Police need help identifying a suspect with chest-length beard and a "barbed wire" tattoo around one of his wrists.

Anyone with information should call the Kenova Department of Public Safety at (304)453-1281.
