Family members tell 13 News there has been tension between the people involved in an early morning stabbing.

Police said things exploded early Wednesday morning when the suspect, Kerry Harvey, went to her ex-boyfriend's house on Rugby Street.  She was upset because her two children were at the home with their father and his new girlfriend.

Harvey stabbed Gary Turpin, 57, in the chest after a heated argument, police said.  She also stabbed Alice Early, 49, in the back.

The children were not injured and both have been placed in the custody of CPS.

Family members said Harvey and Turpin were together for years before they split up.

Neighbors said they knew there were problems between the pair but had no idea Harvey would snap.

"I think it was an awful situation because, due to the fact that you have kids involved in the situation. Anytime you have domestic disturbances is never good," said neighbor Tyrone Hawkins.

The victims are recovering at Charleston Area Medical Center.  Police said they both could have died, but are stable for now.

Harvey has been charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding.  She told our cameras she did not stab anyone.  However, police said they have plenty of evidence to support that she did.

The incident come just one day after police were called to the same house after Harvey showed up and caused a scene, they said.

Harvey will be arraigned by a magistrate judge later this morning.  She is currently in the South Central Regional Jail.

She has a long criminal history that dates back to 1994.  She has been charged with several violent incidents in the past, including malicious wounding and battery.
