Power outage forces Cabell County Courthouse to close early

Posted: Updated:

High winds caused some tense moments in Huntington on Wednesday afternoon as a power outage closed offices and stalled traffic.

Several blocks of downtown Huntington were without power at around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Some street lights were out on Fifth Avenue ,forcing drivers to yield to other cars at intersections. The lights were also out at the Cabell County Courthouse, forcing office workers to close up early for the day. "Yes, it's unfortunate. But with this day and age of technology you can't do without it, and some people say you can't do with it. In these type situations we just kind of got to go with the flow," said Chris Tatum, Cabell County Manager.

Power was restored about an hour later. Officials with AEP said that the outage was caused when lines touched each other and arced, blowing a transformer.
