American Heart Association holds 'Bank Day' before Saturday's Heart Walk in Charleston, WV

Fifth Third Bank in Charleston brought together businesses on Wednesday as they donated the money they've raised for the American Heart Association. Bob Welty is the 2013 Walk Chair. "It certainly is one of the core values of Fifth Third to be supportive of the community and when you're able to look at two things, heart disease and stroke and try to do everything you can to wipe those two things out in one fun walk, our employees are excited about that and their looking forward to it."

The AHA held its annual "Bank Day" from 11 a.m. To 2 p.m. at the Chase building. The teams will be participating in this year's Heart Walk, which will be Saturday, Sept. 7, at the State Capitol Complex.

Monies raised goes toward research for better heart medicines and technology. This year alone the American Heart Association has given West Virginia University $1.5 million in research grants.

The 2013 Greater Charleston Heart Walk will begin with registration at 8 a.m. On Saturday, Sept. 7, at the State Capitol Complex. The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 9:30 a.m.
