Thousands of dollars in damage to volunteer fire dept. in Blaine, KY

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of dollars worth of equipment was destroyed when the volunteer fire department serving the Blaine, KY community caught fire.

The fire broke out at about 6 a.m. on Thursday destroying equipment and damaging three fire trucks that may end up being totaled.

Members of the Blaine VFD came to the scene when they heard the call go out over the radio.

Firefighters on the scene were not able to say if the fire was suspicious.  A source close to the investigation said that when firefighters arrived, the locks on the outside of the doors were removed, and a five-foot-tall safe containing very important city documents was missing.  City records, tax documents and a few dollars in change were believed to be in the safe.

The department has about 15 firefighters.

Blaine has about 250 people, many of whom, are wondering what kind of  response they will get the next time a fire happens in town.  The Blaine fire chief says fire departments in the nearby communities of Red Bush and Webbville are going to handle calls out of Blaine until service is restored in Blaine.
