INSTITUTE, WV – West Virginia State University will offer a new, fully accredited master of education degree in multicultural instructional leadership beginning with the spring 2014 semester.

The program is for certified teachers seeking a master's degree and will provide opportunities for graduate study and research, leading to understanding the best practices in educating both multicultural and high-poverty students.

WVSU spokesmen say the degree will prepare teachers for school districts with high minority or poverty student demographics. The program is designed to be completed within six semesters and includes an action research project and a capstone portfolio review. There are 12 required courses for a total of 36 semester hours. The courses focus on action research methodology, technology integration and instructional leadership.

Admission requirements to the program are a bachelor's degree with an overall GPA of 2.75 and a score of 370 or higher on the Miller's Analogy Test; three years of public school experience; and successful completion of the application process.

The deadline to apply for admission for the spring semester is Nov. 15.
