Students score 'red carpet' treatment at Belle Elementary in Kanawha County

Some students in Kanawha County received the red carpet treatment on Tuesday. The principal at Belle Elementary School literally rolled out a red carpet for 19 students who scored well on the West Test in 2012.

The students received the superstar treatment which included a Hummer limo ride, meet and greet with school officials and a special lunch at Shoney's. "It's a pretty big undertaking especially because we had 19 students who get to participate today. So, that's a lot of phone calls, emails and information exchanged," said Amanda Mays, principal at Belle Elementary School.

Principal Mays said they kept the special celebration a secret from the students. They wanted them to be surprised when the limo pulled up at the school. The program hopes to encourage students to give their best efforts on the West Test.
