KY seeing improvement in education system

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky is seeing measured improvement in its education system.

That's according to Gov. Steve Beshear and Education Commissioner Terry Holliday who made a joint appearance on Tuesday to announce preliminary figures showing Kentucky's 86 percent graduation rate to be one of the highest in the nation.

The pair also touted Kentucky's college-and-career-readiness rate, a measure of whether students are prepared to be successful after high school graduation, which has climbed 20 percent since 2010.

That measure showed over half of Kentucky's high school graduates are ready to go to college or into careers, that is up from a third of students three years ago.
