PORTSMOUTH, OH -

Three students from Shawnee State University will be completing their student teaching in China this fall semester.

Two of the students have never been out of the United States before. Wade Beachy, of West Jefferson, son of Kent Beachy and Carol Yoder Beachy, majors in social studies education with a minor in theater at SSU.

"I am very excited to meet new people and also see all the historical sites in China," Beachy said.

Thomas Dominick and Rebecca Kroeger, of Cincinnati, are students at the University of Cincinnati who have joined Shawnee State for the semester to be able to experience student teaching in China.

Dominick has been to both Tanzania and Kenya, and looks forward to doing his student teaching in China.

"My parents are a little nervous about me going to China but they are proud that I am trying to expand my resumé and my mind," Dominick said. "I look forward to seeing the historical sites, the food, and the students I'll be teaching."

Rebecca Kroeger, of Cincinnati, will be in Macau, China for her student teaching experience.

She says she looks forward to meeting new people and getting to know her students.

"I am looking forward to seeing the arts and culture of China and slowly but surely learning the language," Kroeger said.

This is also her first time out of the U.S.  Kroeger is an artist and will miss not only her family and friends, but also her art studio, she said.

Kroeger said. "Though I am nervous about going out of the country for the first time, I am definitely excited to experience what Macau has to offer."
