RAND, West Virginia -

Kanawha County deputies arrested a man in connection with a beating and a stabbing.

Robert Critchfield is accused of attacking another man in Rand over a cigarette. Deputies charged him with malicious wounding and transported him to South Central Regional Jail Thursday.

A man, who insisted to be called, "Mr." Fore, said he was walking home on Elaine Drive Saturday night when he heard someone behind him.

"He hollered at me for a cigarette, and I seen him on a bike, and I told him I didn't have a cigarette," Fore said. "Only the one I was smoking."

Fore said that's when Critchfield started attacking him with a blade attached to a metal pipe. He claims he woke up in the street, covered in blood.

"I work in construction my whole life," Fore, 41, said.  "I work with my hands.  I need my hands."

Fore was released from the hospital Wednesday.  Bruises and gashes cover Fore's body.  He sustained injuries to his side, his stomach, his arm, and his hand, which was heavily bandaged Thursday morning.

"I mean that's the first time I've ever seen him and look what he did to me and I didn't even know him," Fore said.  "So guess what he'd do to other people."

Originally from Charleston, Fore moved to Rand two months ago to help his family.
