    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

HUNTINGTON, WV -

Officers with the Huntington Police Department say Marsha Darcy, 60, of Chesapeake, Ohio, was the victim that was hit and killed Thursday night on Hal Greer Boulevard in Huntington. 

The incident happned just before 8 p.m. near Cabell Huntington Hospital. 

No word on whether or not the driver of the car is facing charges. Officers say no alcohol and no drugs were a factor in the incident.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

Police are on the scene of a pedestrian hit and killed by a vehicle in Huntington, WV.

According to dispatchers, it happened at 1335 16th Street/Hal Greer Blvd., between G D Ritzy's and Cabell Huntington Hospital, at 7:50 p.m. Thursday

Dispatchers say one female has been confirmed dead.

The name of the victim is not yet known.

According to a witness working at G D Ritzy's, a black female was walking across the street going towards Cabell Huntington Hospital when she was hit by an SUV, driven by a female.

People at the scene tried to revive the victim, but were not able to.

Police say the driver is not being charged at this time.

The southbound lanes of 16th Street/Hal Greer Blvd. are closed until further notice.

The Huntington Police Department is investigating.
