CHARLESTON, WV -

Charleston soon will be invaded by classic and custom cars.  The annual Rod Run and Doo Wop will take place along Kanawha Boulevard in downtown Charleston from Oct. 2 - 6.

The five-day event along the Kanawha River will span a mile and half from Magic Island to Capitol Street.  Nearly 1,000 vehicles will descend on the Boulevard along with nightly concerts and a fireworks display Saturday night.

In 2012, the Rod Run and Doo Wop was voted No. 1 overall show by Cruisin Times Magazine.

The event will kick off with a cruise-in at Mardi Gras Casino & Resort Wednesday, Oct. 2 in Cross Lanes.  Thursday, Oct. 3 begins registration and start of the car show.  The event includes concerts, drawings, fireworks, vendors, concession stands and even the Big Foot monster truck.  For a complete schedule, visit the schedule on Rod Run and Doo Wop's official website.

On average, the event attracts vehicles from 16 states each year, as well as an estimated 100,000 people throughout the event.

The event is sponsored by WOWK-TV 13, Mardi Gras Casino & Resort and the City of Charleston.
