The 77th annual Mountain State Forest Festival kicked off on Saturday with many events.
One of those events was the 7th annual "Strongest Man in the Forest" competition.
Competitors from all over West Virginia, and even some from other states, competed in the strongman contest.
There were two weight divisions, over 200 pounds and under 200 pounds.
There were many events to decide who the strongest man and woman were.
"We have the truck pull, the log press, they have what they call the caber toss, which is a large pole that is anywhere between 80 and 150 pounds, we also have the push pull competition which is a reverse tug of war," said Chad Shoemaker, assistant director for the Mountain State Forest Festival.
A.J. Freda was the winner of the competition overall. Freda set a record in the log press with a weight of 340 pounds.
Also on Saturday a chicken wing cook-off was held.
On Sunday there will be a 10K run, a children's parade, and an Eagles tribute band.
The coronation of Maid Silvia LXXVII will be held on Friday, October 4.
The festival will continue all next week.
