HUNTINGTON, WV -

Three very special young women from our area are representing Huntington in a very bright way.

Members of the Huntington Fire Department announced the competition winners for Miss Spark, Miss Ember and Miss Flame 2013.

Miss Spark 2013 is Karissa Bayer from Highlawn Elementary School, Miss Ember 2013 is Kaitlyne Holley from Huntington East Middle School and Miss Flame 2013 is Katie Ramey from Huntington High School.

The Miss Spark, Miss Ember & Miss Flame competition was brought back into the fire parade a few years ago. The competition is a fire prevention essay contest and was open to all girls who attend school within city limits. We spoke to Huntington High Senior and Miss Flame, Katie Ramey, and she explains to us why fire prevention is important.

"You never know when a fire can happen, its scary and most of the time people just panic. They don't know what to do and in my paper I basically wrote about the importance of staying on that track to knowing exactly what to do when there's a fire," Ramey said.

The winners will ride in the Fire Prevention Parade on Monday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m.
