DUNBAR, WV -

People in one community are fed up with an ugly piece of property on their block.

Neighbors said 1235 Fletcher Avenue is what many people in Dunbar call an 'eyesore'.  The property was condemned in February because the foundation is sinking and isn't safe, city officials said.  The city gave the landlord until September 30 to tear the home down, but he didn't do it.

Thomas Ferrill has lived across the street from the home for 12 years. He has been searching for answers on the demolition since the property was condemned eight months ago

"I went to a property board meeting at city hall on the 28th of August. He gave them until the end of September and it's still here," he said.

Between the trash and junk on the property, Ferrill is worried kids will get into the property.

"There's kids that play around here. It's just a hazard," he said.

Building inspector Hugh Leishman said the city has been trying to work with the landlord. He said the city gave the man plenty of time to take care of the situation.

Now, the city confirms it has filed papers against the landlord through Dunbar Municipal Court. The landlord faces legal action and daily fines until the problem is fixed, Leishman said.
