CHARLESTON, WV -

Car and truck enthusiasts from across the country will show off their prize winning vehicles in Charleston, WV this weekend.

The eight annual Charleston Rod Run and Doo Wop kicked off Thursday morning.  The classiest, fastest and hottest cars and trucks started to line the Kanawha Boulevard at 8 a.m.

Organizers said this is poised to be the biggest year for the event.

"We bring in a lot of cars. We had pre-registered cars from 12 states plus Canada this year," said Jack Jarvis, President of the Rod Run and Doo Wop.

Jarvis said he expects more than 1,000 vehicles to register by Friday.

For some people, this is their first time participating in the event.

David Chancey is from Poca in Putnam County. He decided to enter his dad's 1931 Ford truck into the show. Chancey said his father, Shirley, passed away earlier this year. The truck meant a lot to him.

"It was just his pride and joy. He loved to take it everywhere," he said.

Dave Hatcher brought along his 1972 dirt track sprint car.  One of his favorite parts of the show is letting children play with the car.

"With my race car, I can let kids sit in it. They can't touch the other cars. It's always a lot of fun to let kids enjoy the event," he said.

Cliff Messer has participated in the show since it started eight years ago. His 1932 Chevrolet is always a crowd favorite.

"Everybody you see is a friend," he said.

The car show will wrap up on Sunday with an awards show at 1 p.m.

Organizers said there is a little something for everyone to enjoy; from unique cars to live music and delicious food.
