Two small beagle pups were rescued from a drainage pipe near a Wal-Mart store in Parkersburg, WV on Thursday.
According to the Parkersburg News and Sentinel, a call for assistance was placed around 2 p.m. The caller said two dogs were trapped in a drainage pipe next to the store.
The dogs, Maggie and Happy, were being trained to rabbit hunt by their owner, Jeff Barton, in a field nearby, the newspaper said.
The dogs crawled into the entrance of the drainage pipe.
"They went in and then couldn't get out," he said.
Parkersburg fire officials, personnel from the Humane Society of Parkersburg and store officials from Wal-Mart aided in getting the dogs out, according to the newspaper.
Fire officials climbed down by ladder to get into the pipe with the dogs.
Barton told the newspaper the dogs were trapped for 45 minute before they were rescued.
