SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV -

A man was arrested in South Charleston, WV after police say he led them on a high speed chase that spanned several counties and reached speeds of 100 mph.

Robert Lee Pack, of Huntington, was charged with fleeing, DUI second offense, and driving on a revoked license after initially fleeing from authorities.

The chase began after South Charleston police were told that law enforcement officials in Hamlin, WV were pursuing a suspect in a Chevrolet SUV along US 119 in the northbound direction, late Saturday night.

Once the driver traveled into South Charleston, police said they tried to end the pursuit by using stop sticks near Songer Lane.  However, Pack's vehicle did not stop and he continued fleeing despite having one tire blown out.

Pack continued to drive on US 119 near Preferred Place.  He traveled through a field and eventually the vehicle stopped near the Cabela's Department Store and Home Depot in the South Ridge Centre.  Pack then ran from police on foot.  Police caught Pack, wrestled him to the ground and arrested him.

According to police, when they searched Pack's vehicle they found three open beer containers. Police also say Pack had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath when they arrested him.

Pack was taken to the West Virginia South Central Regional Jail.
