UPDATE:

The case for a Hurricane man arrested for DUI after traveling the wrong direction on I-79 has been continued.

_____

UPDATE:

A Hurricane man arrested last night after driving the wrong way on Interstate 79 had a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit.

According to court documents, West Virginia State Police arrested Kevin Allen after he failed three field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol content of 0.310.  Troopers say Allen crashed into two cars before hitting the median. He was okay and arrested on scene.

One of the victims says he's a bit shaken up but is doing okay.

"I'm still in shock, I can't believe that happened," said Tyler Itnyre, a University of Charleston student whose car was hit by Allen.

Tyler Itnyre was driving in his silver Honda Civic south on Interstate 79 Sunday night when he says he saw a black Chevy Silverado driving the wrong way.

"A truck coming from the left hand lane headed right towards me. I was scared I didn't know what to do," said Itnyre.

He tried to steer out of the way but the truck hit him and continued driving, totaling another car before ramming into the concrete barrier of the median.

State police identify the man behind the wheel as Kevin Allen, who already had two previous DUI arrests in Charleston.

Court documents show Allen was driving with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit during the crash.  According to the criminal complaint, a witness called 911 saying she saw a truck leave the Mink Shoals exit, turn around and then re-enter the highway going the wrong way.

Itnyre did not go to the hospital but the driver and the passenger of the other car both were transported to CAMC and were later released.

Detectives say Allen failed three field sobriety tests and was arrested with his third DUI.  Investigators say they found several open alcoholic containers in his car.

Allen now faces felony charges. His bond was set at $200,000 cash only. He is charged with third-offense drunken driving, reckless driving, leaving the scene with property damage and failure to obey traffic control.

UPDATE:

Police have arrested Kevin Joseph Allen in connection with the crash on I-79 involving a vehicle traveling the wrong way.

Allen has been charged with aggravated DUI, DUI causing personal injury, leaving the scene of an accident, and third offense DUI, among other charges.
