Original story

The Randolph County Sheriff's Department is investigating a shooting that happened in a remote area of Randolph County early Thursday morning.

It happened just after midnight between Beverly and Mabie on Rich Mountain Road, said Randolph County Sheriff Mark Brady.

Brady said one man was pronounced dead as a result of the shooting. Brady could not release any more information about how the man died, but said sheriff's deputies are still interviewing witnesses.

The man's identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.

"We're still continuing our investigation to determine if this is accidental, a homicide, or suicide. We're still determining what occurred, and how it occurred," Brady said.

Brady said the shooting is an isolated incident. The body has been sent to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

The West Virginia State Police's Crime Scene Unit was also on scene to process evidence and assist.
