VIENNA, WV -

Kathy and Donald Wise of Vienna have been selected state directors for the West Virginia chapter of Good Sams, the largest camping organization in the world.

The Vienna couple are members of the Parkersburg-based Wild Wonderful Sam chapter of Good Sam, the second-oldest chapter in the state.

The West Virginia Good Sam was founded 36 years ago as the Good Samaritan Club. It serves as a network for camping enthusiasts to provide help and support on the road.

There are approximately 3,000 Good Sam members in West Virginia and more than a million members worldwide.

As state directors, the Wises, along with a volunteer staff, will work to grow existing chapters and start new ones. They also will coordinate a spring and fall "Sam-boree," a big campout with cooking, costume contests, games and entertainment.

The clubs also contribute volunteer hours and organize fundraisers for causes in their communities including Relay for Life, Dogs for the Deaf and Special Olympics.
