The Buckhannon Police Department is providing free firearm safety kits. The locks fit most types of handguns, rifles, and shotguns.

The goal is to prevent a child or any other unauthorized person from accessing a firearm in your home.

Chief Matt Gregory said his department is participating to promote firearms safety to all gun owners.

"Homes that have children, this allows us to secure our firearms and make them safe. To prevent any accidents that could happen with children in our home," Chief Gregory said.

The kits and gun safety literature are available at Buckhannon City Hall during business hours.
