CHARLESTON, WV -

A woman has been struck and killed on Charleston's east end.

According to police, an elderly black woman, possibly carrying a cane and luggage, reportedly was dropped off by a bus and was crossing the street, when she was hit by a vehicle.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

Metro 911 dispatchers say the accident happened at the intersection of Virginia Street East and Greenbrier Street just after 7:30 a.m.

Police say that with the exception of school buses, there is no legal obligation for a vehicle to stop for a city bus.
