CHARLESTON, WV -

UPDATE:

A gunshot fired Saturday night in Charleston lands one woman in the hospital. Police officers say the suspect turned himself in at the crime scene and they have questioned him.

The shooting happened on the 1300 block of Quarrier Street around 6pm.  Neighbors say the victim was walking up the steps from the laundry room when a bullet was fired through the wall and hit her.

"It's always been a quiet little place. Last night is the first time I've ever known for it to get out of control like it did," said Shiela Cunningham, who lives near the apartment complex.

Cunningham has been living on this block of Quarrier Street for the past few years with her grandson. She says caution tape and police cruisers were the last thing she expected to see Saturday night.

"I bring my grandson everyday to the park. It could have been us yesterday walking past here and got hit with a bullet," she said.

Police say no charges have been filed at this time, but neighbors say they want action taken.

"There is no such thing as an accidental shooting. It takes a human being to pull that trigger," said Cunningham.

The name of the victim is not being released. She was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
