Ohio Attorney General to visit Portsmouth to hold meeting on growing drug epidemic

Posted: Updated:

Ohio Attorney General, Mike Dewine is on his way to Portsmouth for a community meeting to discuss the drug abuse epidemic that has hit Southern Ohio hard.

He is calling it the "Drug Epidemic Community Meeting," which will be held on Wednesday

After a crackdown on pill mills in Scioto County, police say users have gravitated toward heroin, which has become a big, and lucrative, business in the area.

We sent a crew to Portsmouth shortly after Dewine's announcement, to poll residents on how they think the problem should be handled.
Most are telling us that their neighbors have been giving up, or moving.

"I think we're just chasing our tales around in a circle," says Bernie Adkins, a Portsmouth resident, who is an active community volunteer. "Because no one knows where to start. This is so big."

The meeting will be held at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, at The Counseling Center, on Court Street in Portsmouth.

The event is open to the public.
