Two former governors will share their techniques for diversifying the Mountain State's economy as part of "Conversations in Innovation," an event sponsored by Vision Shared, an economic development organization.

Governors Gaston Caperton and Bob Wise will address the opportunities and challenges West Virginia faces in terms of developing and retaining intellectual capital.

The leaders of Vision Shared believe West Virginia must promote itself as an ideal place to locate and expand businesses that also provides an outstanding quality of life.

"Many other states and nations have fully embraced innovation economics, a growing doctrine that positions intellectual property, technology, entrepreneurship and innovation at the center of economic activity," Vision Shared President Rebecca McPhail Randolph said in a news release. "In West Virginia, we must focus more public, private and non-profit investment on joining these elements to grow and expand a balanced economic base."

The Conversations in Innovation event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at Geary Auditorium at the University of Charleston. The event is free of cost and open to the public.
