Governor’s One Shot Whitetail Hunt, Banquet this weekend

Posted: Updated:

The 2013 West Virginia Governor's One Shot Whitetail Hunt to benefit the Hunters Helping the Hungry Program will take place Oct. 26 at Stonewall Resort State Park in Lewis County.

The One Shot program has donated more than $300,000 to the Hunters Helping the Hungry Program since it was created in 2007. The event is supported by volunteers from the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, the private sector and individuals who serve as guides for participating hunters.

Hunting takes place on private land, so as not to interfere with other hunters, and only antlerless deer are harvested, to help control the populations on the lands.

All venison harvested during the hunt is donated to the HHH program, which is administered by the West Virginia Food Bank in Gassaway.

The hunt began Friday, Oct. 25 with an event to sight in the rifles, then an evening banquet to introduce the hunters to the guides and landowners.

The program concludes Oct. 26 with an award banquet, raffles and a live auction.
