Red Cross assists a Charleston, WV family after a fire destroys their home

CHARLESTON, WV -

The Red Cross WV Region came to the assistance of family of 5 in Charleston after a fire destroyed their home on Sunday morning. 

Flames tore through a home 724 York Ave in around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013. 

The family lost many valuables as a result of the smoke and flames according to Kanawha County 911 dispatchers.

The Red Cross says they have offered hotel accommodations for the family for 3 nights. They have also provided each family member with food and clothing including winter coats. 

The Red Cross helps thousands of families throughout the West Virginia area displaced by fire or other natural disasters. 

Fire rescue officials have not released the exact cause of the fire.
