It wasn't just another Monday for the employees and customers at the Chase Bank on Charleston's east end.  Around 2 p.m., an employee called 911 to report a man had just come in with a gun and robbed them.

"He walked in, made his intentions known by showing a note, and demanded cash," said Lt. Steve Cooper with the Charleston Police Department.

The man fled, but didn't make it far.  A trooper with the Logan County detachment of the West Virginia State Police pulled a vehicle over on Airport Road just north of Chapmanville about 45 minutes later.  Troopers said the car matched the description of the one that fled the bank earlier in the day.

Inside the car, that Trooper found 61-year-old Stephen Spires, 61-year-old Bernice White and 39-year-old Sandra Mullins, all of Williamson.  Spires is charged with bank robbery, the two women are charged with accessory to a bank robbery.  Police said the two women drove Spires from Williamson to Charleston in order to commit the robbery.  Spires, according to police, intended to pay White and Mullins for the ride.

No one was injured during the robbery and Charleston police said the gun used during the crime, and found in the getaway car, was plastic.

Troopers said Spires was trying to get cash to get back to his home state of Florida, but for now the three are being held at Southwestern Regional Jail.
