Preston Memorial Hospital will soon open the doors to a new $38.5 million facility.

A groundbreaking for the hospital was held Wednesday in Kingwood.

The hospital will be located on roughly 30 acres off route 26 next to Preston High School.

Mon Health System partnered with the hospital, guaranteeing the debt to build the new facility.

"The old building was 60 years old and was built with the construction type where you really couldn't move the interior walls and when you get into heating and air conditioning, electric and stuff like that there is really no way to renovate that in a cost effective manor so you have to start with a new building," said Darryl Duncan, of the Mon Health System.

The County Commission donated land for the project. The new hospital should open in early 2015.
