CHARLESTON, WV -

Students from across Kanawha County celebrated Halloween with pumpkin drop events. "Drop that pumpkin!" was heard throughout Charleston's West Side.

Children from Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary watched as their pumpkins, encased in all sorts of protective gear, were thrown from the roof. It's a tradition that carried over from Chandler Elementary School which was closed and became part of the consolidation that created Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary.

Now in its third year at the new facility, classes tried to come up with a way to protect their pumpkin from the fall. Educators said it's a great way for kids to learn while having lots of fun. "It's a lot of fun for the kids, but I think its more fun for the adults. The staff here gets really competitive," said Mellow Lee, Principal at Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary.

The winning class from the primary and intermediate schools received a trophy to keep in their room for the rest of the year.
