On Nov. 7-8, Bethany College will hold its sixth annual Fall Symposium at Mountainside Conference Center.

The theme is "Alternative Interventions," and will feature a keynote speaker for each day and a number of workshops.

Multiple professionals, including social workers, nurses, licensed counselors, addictions specialists and domestic violence prevention specialists are expected to attend the symposium. Following the keynote presentation each morning, there will be a series of sessions presented throughout the remainder of the day.

The keynote presentation Thursday will feature Dr. Judith Romano, Founder and Director of Wheeling Hospital Center for Pediatrics. Dr. Romano has been practicing pediatrics for 23 years and specializes on the effects of early childhood experiences around out-of-home settings on child development. Participants will learn about the importance of child development as the foundation for community and economic development as well as a new framework for early childhood policy and practice.

Friday's keynote presentation will feature Dayna Snell, a 25-year administrative program manager for the Connecticut Department of Children and Families. Snell will share the growth that she has seen in children and youth who have participated in enrichment activities, mentoring programs and public concerts throughout the years.

Co-hosts for the event include West Virginia Northern Community College, the West Virginia University Masters of Social Work Program, the St. John's Home for Children Organization, and the Brooke County Health Department. Sponsors include KidLink, Family Connections, St. John's Home for Children, Right at Home, Valley Hospice and Chartwell's Food Service.
