    Alpha Natural Resources announced July 31 that 11 affiliated coal mines and other facilities in West Virginia could be idled by mid-October, potentially causing 1,100 to be laid off.

CHARLESTON, WV -

The Mountain East Conference has found a home for the 2014 men's and women's conference tournament. The Charleston Civic Center will play host for the tournament, according to a press release.

Opening rounds games will be played at campus sites then will shift to the Charleston Civic Center beginning Thursday, March 6. 

"The city was very interested in bringing this tournament to Charleston," Amos said. "I am confident that our close collaboration with the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will bring a first-class tournament experience for the student-athletes and fans. The quality of basketball in the league is second to none, and we are looking forward to putting that on display at the Charleston Civic Center."

The Mountain East Conference will release its men's and women's basketball preseason polls on Monday, Nov. 4 at the league's media day at the Bridgeport Conference Center.
