Generation West Virginia is marking its sixth year this fall, and re-focusing on being the change its members want to see in West Virginia.

The group was created by young leaders ages 20 to 30 to change the Mountain State's culture of young people leaving for better opportunities.

Generation West Virginia recently announced its new leadership structure with two co-chairs to lead its statewide board. The 2013-2014 co-chairs are Brooke Lord of Dixon Hughes Goodman in Charleston and Elizabeth Sudduth with First Century Bank of Bluefield. Chair Emeritus is Paul D. Daugherty with Philanthropy West Virginia. The vice-chair is Ashley Ryan Alford with the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, and secretary/treasurer is Rob Rosano with The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of Charleston.

"We are proud of our past work in creating change that has opened doors for young talent to stay, come home, move here for the first time and succeed right here in the Mountain State," Lord said. "We are even more excited with our future work that will transform our state's focus and impact on making our state a destination for young people."

Generation West Virginia will host its annual leadership summit Nov. 8 in Morgantown. The theme, "What's Your Voice? Defining You!" is keynoted by West Virginian and career author/adviser Emily Bennington who will present "Mindful Leadership."

The group hosted a May symposium, focused on providing real examples of both rural and urban communities in the state taking steps to engage, recruit and retain young leaders.

"The summit provides personal and professional development for young talent from businesses, nonprofits, health care, education, government and other sectors to strengthen their skills and expertise," Lord said. "It is not just a type of professional development, but networking with some of West Virginia's most successful rising and established leaders."

Other speakers will include Bob Welty, West Virginia president of Fifth Third Bank; David Durham, director of the West Virginia University Career Services Center; and Jamie Summerlin, author of "Freedom Run."
