HUNTINGTON, WV -

Marshall's 61-13 victory over Southern Mississippi on Saturday was just what the team needed.

"It was a whole lot of fun. The second play of the game we forced a fumble, then the offense got out there and scored the first drive, said Marshall defensive back, Monterius Lovett."

The game was especially big for the defense, who in part felt responsible for how the game ended two weeks ago at Middle Tennessee State.

As the Herd turn their focus to UAB, bowl eligibility is a win away.

"We want to go to a bowl. We're not going to settle for six wins and get eligible," said Lovett.

"The bowl game is big, we want to be bowl eligible. We are a little ahead of that. We want to win this game, and if we can win this game we can be bowl eligible," said Marshall linebacker Alex Bazzie.

"It won't be an easy task as the Blazers dashed Marshall's bowl hopes from a year ago.
