A potential problem at the Pocahontas Coal Company's Affinity Mine in Raleigh County led to a shut down at the mine.

Officials with the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training have confirmed that they are working with the coal company to correct a problem that occurred recently with a set of seals. The inspector worked with the company to evacuate all underground personnel to ensure everyone's safety.

(Affinity Mine recently cited as a pattern violator)

The Office of Miner's Health Safety & Training has issued a control order to keep the mine closed until the company fixes the problem. That order was written on Oct. 16.  Affinity is working with the OMHS&T and MSHA to correct the problem and get the mine up and running safely as soon as possible.
