CHARLESTON, WV -

UPDATE:

According to a news release issued by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office, the woman driver who hit a tree on Coal River Rd. in Tornado, WV has died.

The release says that Tammy Holsopple, 47, of Tornado, was driving south at 4:25 p.m. in her white Chevrolet Cavalier Wednesday, Nov. 6 , then exited the roadway, and hit a tree.

According to witnesses, the vehicle may have been traveling at 55 mph prior to impact.

The release states that one witness to the crash said the vehicle braked until it almost stopped, then it accelerated suddenly. The witness saw this several times immediately prior to the crash, and planned to report the driving as soon as they believed it was safe to make a call to 911.

According to the release, the vehicle may have been the subject of a BOLO (be on the lookout) that was issued by dispatchers several moments earlier, which reported a white car traveling in the same direction that was being operated erratically near the intersection of Coal River Road and West Main Street near Saint Albans.

The release states Holsopple was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, and that airbags were deployed during the collision.

Holsopple was trapped in the car.

The release states that members of the Tornado and West Side Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene and extricated her from the vehicle.

Holsopple later died.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of West Virginia will perform a toxicology test as part of their investigation.
