On Nov. 4, AMBUCS celebrated its 75th anniversary in Charleston.

AMBUCS is a non-profit service organization consisting of men and women dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities.

During the celebratory dinner, toasts were made in honor of the leadership exhibited and the past, present and future contributions made to the Charleston community.

On June 2, 1938, the Charleston chapter was chartered at the Ruffner Hotel with 24 members.

Some of AMBUCS' contributions include having sponsored and run the local Boxwood Derby for over 30 years, donating over $200,000 to the National Living Endowment Fund, supporting the Children's Therapy Clinic since 1950 and sponsoring several students majoring in various therapy programs at West Virginia universities each year for Living Endowment Scholarships.

The Charleston chapter and Cynthia Smith also donated funds to set up the Rodney Smith Living Endowment Fund Scholarship in memory of Rodney Smith. The scholarship is given annually to a student either from West Virginia or a student studying one of the therapy disciplines at a West Virginia college or university.
