UPDATE: Miner Taken by Medical Helicopter to Morgantown After Being Injured at Century Mine in Beallsville
A miner at the Century Mine in Beallsville, Ohio was taken by medical helicopter to a Morgantown hospital after being injured when he positioned his body between a machine a rib of coal on Friday morning.
According to Murray Energy, an experienced continuous miner operator was injured when he positioned his body between a continuous miner cable handling device and a rib of coal. The injury occurred when he pulled the continuous miner cable handing device against his body.
The miner was reportedly able to communicate with medical crews. Murray officials reported they saw no noticeable injuries. He was transported to a Morgantown hospital.
The call was received by Belmont County 911 dispatchers around 7 a.m. Friday morning after officials at the mine requested two emergency squads and a medical helicopter.
