Update

A Clarksburg teenager, who was collecting greeting cards from people nationwide, has died following a battle with cancer.

Chris Quinonez's mom, Kelly Sacry, said Chris died at 3:40 a.m. On Dec. 1. Quinonez was diagnosed with a malignant mixed germ cell tumor in the left side of his chest in April of 2013.

Originial Story

Chris Quinonez is a 17-year-old from Clarksburg who was recently told by doctors he only has a few months to live. His mom, Kelly Sacry, said that it didn't seem serious at first.

"He started getting cramps and aches, and about a week before he had flu like symptoms. I had taken him to the doctor thinking ‘oh he's going to get medicine for the flu and maybe be out of school for a few days,'" explained Sacry.

Quinonez was diagnosed with a malignant mixed germ cell tumor in the left side of his chest in April of 2013. It then spread to his brain, liver and spleen.

"They have labeled him as terminal. They said he's most likely got a few months left," said Sacry.

Quinonez is currently at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

A Facebook page has been started called "Cards for Chris" to let him know he's not alone in the fight against cancer.

Brandi Nesbitt and Martha Hawkins started and run the page.

Sacry said he's gotten tons of cards already, including over 40 on Saturday alone.

"Of course we've had his room up here plastered in cards, and I've already gone through several roles of scotch tape. It's been a real blessing," said Sacry.

Sacry said Quinonez has been overwhelmed by the support and wants other kids who have cancer to feel the same thing.

"He's astounded, and he's just overwhelmed at times but it's still wonderful. He'd like to extend to other families with children with cancer to add their address to the page so they can get cards as well," said Sacry.

If you would like to send a card to Quinonez his address is:
