CHARLESTON, WV -

Students at Mountaineer Montessori School in Charleston organized a food drive for Manna Meal, a soup kitchen that provides meals to the needy at St. John's Episcopal Church.

The school took in donations of non-perishable food items, including those most urgently needed by Manna Meal: canned and powdered milk; peanut butter and jelly; canned soup; canned meats; macaroni and cheese mix; Spaghettios; spaghetti sauce with meat; and dried spaghetti and pasta noodles. "At first, for like a week we didn't get anything, but then people started bringing in food so we were very relieved," said Ellis Bell, a 5th grader at the school.

Earlier this school year, students donated $209 to the soup kitchen, which was generated from the sales of "Rainbow Loom" bracelets at the "Sunday Funday" event.

They hope to have more food and monetary donations as part of the Mountaineer Montessori School's spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Thursday, Nov. 14. Manna Meal Feeds anyone who needs food daily in downtown Charleston.
