HUNTINGTON, WV -

Marshall University will take time today to remember a plane crash that changed the school.

The lives of 75 Marshall University football team players, coaches, and staff members were taken in a plane crash at the Tri-State Airport in Huntington 43-years-ago.

The school will be open today, however a majority of the classes have been canceled to allow students to pay tribute to the people who died on Nov. 14, 1970.

The keynote speaker for today's memorial service is Huntington attorney John Proctor. He was 5-years-old when his parents were killed in the crash.

A memorial wreath will be laid at the Memorial Fountain at noon and the fountain will be turned off until spring.

The Marshall University Student Government will hold a memorial service Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at the plane crash site at the Tri-State Airport.

Tonight, the Thundering Herd football team will play Tulsa in Oklahoma and honor the 1970 team with a special helmet.

The Thursday night game is the first away game, played on the day of the crash, since the 1970 tragedy.
