Man enters guilty plea in brutal beating of man at Transit Mall in Charleston, WV

CHARLESTON, WV -

A man accused in a brutal beating at the Transit Mall in downtown Charleston, WV has pleaded guilty.

At a hearing in Kanawha County Circuit Court on Friday, Brandon Douglas pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding in the March attack of Brandon Cotley.  The incident was caught on surveillance cameras.

Douglas said he and his co-defendant, Dana LaFond, stomped on and hit Cotley with a brick.  Cotley spent one week in the hospital following the beating.

In accordance with the plea deal, prosecutors dropped the first degree robbery charge.  Douglas will also have to cooperate with prosecutors when LaFond goes to trial on Nov. 18.
