One man is in jail after leading police on a chase in Ravenswood, WV, in Jackson County.

According to the Ravenswood Police Department, James Andrew McCune, 21, of Cottageville, WV, was arrested and charged with fleeing from law enforcement while under the influence of alcohol.

Police say McCune was seen driving a white 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt driving well over the speed limit on WV-68 at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16.

According to police, a chase ensued in which police were driving up to 80 miles per hour trying to catch McCune, who at this point was driving south on WV-2, then turned south on Century Road at the north plant entrance.

Police temporarily lost sight of McCune's vehicle at a curve just before the plant, but soon saw debris in the roadway, which came from McCune's vehicle, when he lost control of his vehicle and wrecked.

Police then found McCune, who had a scrape on his head from the wreck, and smelled an odor of alcohol on him.

According to police, McCune admitted he had been smoking marijuana, as well as been drinking alcohol prior to this incident.

Police found in McCune's vehicle unopened non-alcoholic beer and a small baggy containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.

McCune was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injury and was then taken to the South Central Regional Jail.

His bond is set at $5,000.

Police say additional charges may be pending.
