HUNTINGTON, WV -

Some middle school students are paying taxes and figuring out how they can afford health care.

Students at Vinson Middle School were introduced to the Reality Store programs Wednesday morning.  The Reality Store program is a financial simulation to help students learn the budgeting process. Each student receives a career and a checkbook that lists the salary for one month. Some also may be given scenarios of marriage and children.

Eighth grader Beth Perry says it's a great idea for teaching responsibility.

"I think it's a really good idea because it brings to perspective how you need to go to college and get a good job to be able to make money," Perry said.  The program is being offered through the WVU Extension Office in Wayne County for Buffalo Crum and Vinson Middle Schools.
