Secret Santa program in Charleston, WV needs more sponsors to help children this holiday season

CHARLESTON, WV -

Secret Santa in Charleston is struggling to fill the needs of the community this holiday season. The program provides toys for underprivileged children in Kanawha, Boone and Lincoln counties. It was founded in 1984 and provides gifts for about 2,300 children, ages newborn to 12 each year.

But as of Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Secret Santa program still had more than 500 children who had not been sponsored. "I feel it's important to have Secret Santa because kids need to have a good Christmas and if they're not able to afford to have a good Christmas then we can get someone to sponsor that child so they have something to open on Christmas," said Debra Richard, manager for Secret Santa.

Sponsoring a child is $75. You can pick a boy or a girl. You may choose three gifts or add clothing items. Gifts, wrapped or unwrapped, should be dropped off at Secret Santa on MacCorkle Avenue in Kanawha City.
