CHARLESTON, WV -

Daniel E. Lanier Sr. of Charleston has been selected as the new West Virginia chairman of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense office.

During a formal ceremony in Alexandria, Va., in September, Lanier took the oath of office for the position, an official volunteer position with the DoD that aids and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve. His appointment is for a three-year term.

In addition to his 44 years as a banker, he also spent nearly four decades in the military reserve program, including six years with the Marine Corps Reserve and 32 years with the Army Reserve. 

He served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq and Kuwait in 2003 and 2004 and retired in 2005 as a Chief Warrant Officer-4. 

He replaces Joe Holley, an executive vice president and chief financial officer for JABO Supply in Huntington.

Lanier recently retired as senior vice president of the State Government/Public Fund Group of BB&T.
