CHARLESTON, West Virginia -

UPDATE:

David Pauley was arrested last week and charged with beating and pushing his wife, and ultimately pulling her insulin pump out of her arm on a busy Clay County road.  Now, his wife, Amanda Pauley has been arrested.

The arrest was made around 4 p.m. Monday by troopers with the Clay Detachment of the West Virginia State Police.

Amanda Pauley is charged with permitting DUI.  Troopers took a statement from her Thursday saying she was aware that her husband, David Pauley, had been drinking prior to driving a van that had broken down in Lizemore, in which she and her 4-year-old daughters were passangers.

Two witnesses on the scene also gave statements corroborating that Amanda Pauley and the child were in the van along with David Pauley.

Troopers said Monday Amanda Pauley asked to change her original statement, saying the child was, in fact, not in the vehicle, despite the statements from the other two witnesses.

Amanda Pauley is being held at Central Regional Jail on $1500 bond.

ORIGINAL:

David Pauley, Jr., of Clay is behind bars after troopers with the West Virginia State Police said he admitted to hitting his wife on the side of the road.

It happened just before 6 p.m. Thursday.

Troopers said they received multiple 911 calls from concerned neighbors, saying a man was in a physical altercation with a woman along Route 16 in Lizemore.  When troopers arrived on the scene, they said Pauley was at a neighbor's home, asking to use the phone.

Pauley told troopers that their van had broken down.  He then admitted to hitting and pushing her and then pulling his wife's insulin pump out of her arm.  Pauley's wife and 4-year-old step daughter had been given a ride to Bentree, near the border of Nicholas County.

Troopers then located Pauley's wife in Bentree.  She told investigators that the crimes he admitted to were true, and that Pauley had been drinking prior to the incident.

Troopers also say Pauley assaulted another male at the scene of this incident.

Troopers conducted field sobriety tests on Pauley, and the suspect failed.  Pauley is charged with domestic battery, DUI with a minor in the vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
