WHEELING, W.Va -

The Comprehensive Plan Committee in Wheeling has been gathering public input during "Envision Wheeling" workshops since October.

The second round of public workshops hosted by Compass Point Planning, began on Monday. The workshops are providing plenty of feedback from the community about how residents envision Wheeling's future.

Research maps were presented at Monday's meeting. Each map explained current land use and potential land use. Residents were asked to discuss which areas of Wheeling need rehabilitated or redeveloped.

Wendy Moeller, the Principal Planner for Compass Point, says the comprehensive plan will capitalize on the assets the city already has.

"That includes a really strong quality of life, low cost of living, and the parks and recreation," she says. "It also includes growing the businesses that are already here."

On Wednesday, December 11, Compass Point will host an open house with a presentation of goals and suggested strategies.

From there, they'll begin drafting a plan, while working the with the steering committee. They hope to have an adoptable comprehensive plan by the middle of next year.
